Punta Allen
Punta Allen is a tiny lobster fishing village with about 800 residents (some say less, some say more). Punta Allen is one of the largest fisherman village located inside of the UNESCO World Heritage Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
It is beautiful quiet village and can be explored on foot, most of the people living in town are Mayan descendants of residents from thousands of years ago, they make their living fishing, and increasingly, through tourism.
There are a handful of mini local grocery stores. If one does not have what you are looking for, ask and they will direct you to a store that does. There is a panaderia (bakery) in town, they sell delicious bread, baked over coals in a domed oven. A picturesque park is to be found right in the centre of the community where in the evenings a few sport events take place and children gather to play.
Punta Allen counts with the basic facilities, there is an Internet café in town, Internet connectivity and speed are not always at it’s best but you can easily send some emails.
If you prefer quiet, laid back barefoot vacations, with electricity only on from 6-12 at night, incredible flats fishing, unmatched natural beauty then Punta Allen is for you
